A great show today.
Me and Richy Boy headed off to Ward 7 to collect some requests. I was being my usual charming self with the ladies, I’m always a hit. Got a ton of requests.
During the show we had 3 winners, and half a dozen phone in requests. Ace.
I’m sounding much more polished than I used to in front of the mic. It’s totally different to night clubs: I’m used to shouting to several hundred people. With this I just talk. I’ve still got a DJ voice, but it’s toned down. Still northern, but quite neutral. I also did some talking on the phone to a couple of listeners which I’ve never done when it’s been the full team of 3; Cliff usually does all the talking, so it was great to add some more to the confidence of speaking on the phone in an entertaining way.

So here I go then.
To be specific I’ve been under way on the whole radio thing for 4 months now. The idea of working in radio has been on my mind for quite a few years, but I’ve not had the time or killer motivation to pursue it. Back befo
re my health took a nosedive, I was DJing in nightclubs and working the music as my career. Radio didn’t feature strongly enough until the music got taken away and nightclubs were no longer an option.
Now radio is an option, so I’m just weeks away from having my own show on Radio Fox; it’s hospital radio for Leicester Royal Infirmary. The start has to be somewhere! I’ve been co-presenting on the Saturday morning Brunchbox show, 10am – 12pm, which has been lots of fun, for the last 4 months.
For the last 3 weeks I’ve been having presenter training. Not sure how many more training sessions I need because using the mixer and speaking on the mic has been my entire adult life, albeit in a nightclub. The transition has been a little different but easy enough. I just need to finish my training then they’re giving me my choice of show and night, and I’ve gone for Friday night, 10pm – 12am. Bit of a graveyard, but I can do something with that for sure.

I’ve trashed my old web site and made something new. I hadn’t touched my last web site in 3 years so it was happy to die.
Here I’ll document getting back in to DJing with full force. I’ll also be putting recordings of my shows on here when they happen to.
National is the dream, but one step at a time eh: local and regional need to come first.
If it comes to nothing, at least I’ll have tried, and I’m going to try very hard. Let’s see what happens.
I’m pencilling in 2011 as the getting my first paid gig.
